Matt and Heather Engagement Photos

This past weekend we had a awesome time!  I had a wonderful engagement photo shoot as well as an adventure in Elk County PA.

Matt and Heather are both out doors types.  Taking their fair share of game each hunting season.  So what better way to start an adventure together then with something they already enjoy.  We traveled up to Elk County PA to capture their engagement photos.  We  ventured fourth picking places that would we thought would look good.  The light not always being perfect so we would adjust and tinker with the camera settings.  Adjust till we had just the perfect amount.  But lets not forget the other fun part of this shoot.  We where in the middle of the wild with wild Elk all around.  Matt had his cow call and this caused a whole lot of bugling going on.  Male Elk answered the call from the left of us to the right of us.  It grew in intensity.  We traveled into the brush and opened up into a huge prairie. The distance held a herd of elk just grazing and enjoying the fine weather.  Before we knew it there was a bull elk not far from us.  Its massive rack and huge body strutted with confidence.  We called it closer and closer before we lost our edge and retreated back to the saftey of the tree line on the side of the ridge.

Over all it was a pretty incredible weekend full of great shots and great laughs. Please see our other recent post to view some photos from the trip.

If interested in having an adventure engagement shoot contact us we would love to help out.

Cheers!

What is photography?

So, someone complimented me the other day on being a good photographer. It was not some random kind soul that I have never met before but someone that is close to me.  We got into a discussion about what is it to be good and what is worth saying or not saying. I rather not be told good job, rather I would like to hear what the image does to you.

For example I have a photo of a plant. This plant is growing and crawling fourth, so what would a image like that remind you of?  Great you like the photo but I am interested in why.  My ego is big enough I don't need to hear how you think it is awesome and great.  I want to hear how it moves you.  Does it make you cry or long for some person you have left behind.  Will it bring a smile to your face because it reminds you of the sun shining and warming your face on some great holiday?

Don't get me wrong I love the kindness that many show me and my art/craft. I guess at the end of it I am greedy or nosy.  I want to know how things move you. Often times folks state that well we are not like you.  we can't express our emotions like you.  Then in the next sentence they are using their memories as the example of how to describe a scenario. Those memories are drawn from emotions you are not so much remembering the scene that happen rather remembering the sensations that you had while going through it.

What do you guys think?

Green balls of awesomness!!!!!!

What does this photo do for you?

Tell me what it reminds you of or what it makes you think of.

Eye of the Tiger!!!

SurvivorEye Of The Tiger Lyrics

"Risin’ up, back on the street
Did my time, took my chances
Went the distance, now I’m back on my feet
Just a man and his will to survive"

I felt it was approirate to start off with a few words from the Survivor hit Eye of The Tiger.  This was created for Rocky III.  While I am not a movie critic, and some folks may say my taste is unique I do feel that inspiration comes from the damnest places.

I look around and see a bird.  This bird happens to be a dove that has the most brilliant color.  This bird is pure white.  Ok, so a dove it's pure white and it pops out of no where.  Now I was out marching around taking my camera for a walk when I happened upon this sight.  The dove was sitting lonely and lost upon a tree branch.  It looked tired and worn out.  Life appeared to be hard, but it's feathers shined through out the branches.  Is this inspirational or just something beautiful worth seeing?

It is interesting, because currently in life things are tough.  Financally changes at my day job and low amount of photo work have made it rather difficult.  Makes one feel more appreciative of the the items you have already paid for.  I don't want to say more appreciative of the things you have because I am not sure that is true.  So back to talking about the things you have paid for.  I have a roof over my head, I own my own place.  I pay for it every month.  If I say I own it, it being the condo, I could be misleading you in that I have a mortage.  So, someone could say everyone has that though you still own it.  Your house can be taken though, your car can be taken, and even things inside of it heaven forbid.  Those items are things you have not paid for.  You are still thankful though.  What items do we have that are already paid for? Well, those things include a tennis racket, sneakers, or a camera.  This thought process got me thinking.  How do I capitalize on what I have to make more so I am not living paycheck to paycheck.  I want to be able to donate to charities.  I want to help my mother and father out when they need money.  I am an adult and living paycheck to paycheck is not the way to be.

You also have the mental aspect of it.  Is the glass full or the glass empty?  If you are thinking the glass is empty then inherently it is empty.  You must refill your spirits.  Turn that glass upside down and put it in water...what happens?  Well the glass will float.  Air is trapped inside and the glass cannot sink to the bottom till that air is out.  Eventually the glass will tip and fall over, but that happens to everyone and thing.  Thankfully we have arms, legs, ears, mind, eyes, etc...  We can get up.  We have the ability to stand up.  Despite the challenge and what is before us the only thing that can really defeat us would be ourselves.

Another Quote from Rocky since it is the theme that started this rant

"...You stopped being you. You let people stick a finger in your face and tell you you're no good. And when things got hard, you started looking for something to blame, like a big shadow. Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get it and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done! Now if you know what you're worth then go out and get what you're worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain't you! You're better than that! I'm always gonna love you no matter what. No matter what happens. You're my son and you're my blood. You're the best thing in my life. But until you start believing in yourself, ya ain't gonna have a life..." Rocky Balboa

So Rugby is crazy right now.  On top of that I had a incredible secert engagement.  A guy proposing to his girlfriend.  What truly made that great time was I had to stalk them at the request of the boyfriend.  Here was the deal.  Hang out infront of the Newseum in DC.  The bf will walk down the street after a lovely dinner with his wife to be.  He will stop in front of a newspaper with a headline stating his intentions to his one true love!!!! How awesome is that.  She did not expect it nor did she know of the photos!  It turned out she said yes and the entire event was spectacular.  The boyfriend was happy with the shots.  I will admit it was a difficult shoot because of the changing light from the DC city scape and the time of day.  The light faded quickly and the eye had to stay open longer and longer to collect the required light for the shots.  Overall I was pleased as I hope the bride and groom will be.  Fortunately because of the convience of my site the boyfriend is able to purchase all of the photos from my website.  BUT, he is having some trouble.  My site requires that cookies are enabled and that if you attempted to place the items in your cart before you enable them then you have to clear the cookies and close the browser then try again.  This is proving to be a challenge, but we will suceed.  Fortunately I keep the gallery up for them for an extended period of time.

Over all www.owuphotos.com pulls it off again!

Stay tuned for all the newest and greatest.  I will be blogging more consistantly, so have no fear your read will be here!!!!

Rugby, life, cinco de mayo, and other stuff!

Hey Folks!!!

Well it is Cinco De Mayo,  I am sitting here blaring ranchero music, and rocking the evening.  It has been a pretty insane couple of weeks.  It is the end of the 15's rugby season and the start of the 7's season.  Spring is turning into summer and the cold gives way to the warm embrace of the summer eve's.  Firefly's light the skies and the dreams to wonder what possibilities exist under the endless stary nights.

So what is first!  Lets Talk Rugby!!!!! Love it!  So the Nova Men made it to the playoffs.  We travelled to Boston with 22 men.  While it was a gritty no holds fight, we where unable to pull it off in the end.  Our season unfortunately ended more abruptly then we had hoped.  Somethings I must mention is unfortunately I was away form the team and game for this past season because I am trying to increase business.  Nova in the end improved on alot of fronts.  Our Forwards where damaging to all of our foes.  Our Backs where putting in the work.  Alittle bit more cohesiveness and we will be where we want to be.

Next, the Nova Women  ended their season playing at home against New Haven.  The women have a different season rotation.  So the ending of their season was just fun!  The women put in the work and showed why they are the best in the country.

To all Nova folks current, old, men, women, and future members Glad to hav eyou part of the nation of NOVA!~

Post to be continued!.... stay tuned!

Pt 2 Saint Louis!!!!! - One World United Photos LLC

So know I left everyone waiting anxiously for the tale to continue.

So we are in Saint Louis taking photos.  So that is the business end of the deal.  I got to explore the arch and the historical parts of Saint Louis.  The Arch is something incredible.  This structure is massive, I am pretty sure King Kong and Godzilla can dance underneath of it together.  After spending some time here at the arch I went through and checked out the historical court house just a walk away from the Arch.  This building holds tons of tails as you walk through the humble, but awe inspiring building.
It is humbling to see the the creativity of man mirrored by the idea of order maintained at any cost.

The rest of the trip was discovering some great places to eat.  I will admit I stole these off of travel channel.  They both appeared in Man Vs. Food  the humble Pappy's Smokehouse and Crown Candies.

Pappy's Smokehouse(http://pappyssmokehouse.com/) is the place to be for BBQ.  I ordered the Big Ben which is a whopping meal of chicken, ribs, pulled pork and your choice of sides.  Each table has a variety of bbq sauces available for you to try.  If you like ribs, anything pulled, and chicken this place won't let you down.  Fortunately, if you have trouble deciding what to get there are friendly faces everywhere to help you dive through all the BBQ heaven options.

The next place I had the awesome pleasure visiting was Crown Candies(http://crowncandykitchen.net/).  Here we had the excellent server Ashnique.  Her smile lit up the room.  The menu was vast so in the end we asked her to help with our decisions.  She created some of the most incredible and delicious Malt Shakes known to man kind.  Ashnique offered to continue my tour of St. Louis, but unfortunately I did not copy down the number correctly :( every time I tried to call it was no good!

Over all the trip was pretty incredible.  Anyone looking for a nice time, good food, and great people head over to Saint Louis.  It is a destination not many folks think of, but the weather was great.  The town is full of character.  It will be a place I am sure to go back to.

Cheers!

WOWziers - brought to you by One World United Photos LLC pt. 1

Hello All,

It has been a few months since my last update, so I figured I would let you have it!

Just a timeline of events since the last post.  I have conquered tax season, acquired a new camera body(canon 7D yay me), now in ST. Louis Gateway to the west living the dream.

So the major challenges of owning your business is to make sure the IRS does not knock at your door.  I just have to say that while it seems odd and perhaps in the future I should move on, but currently I use H and R Block to do my taxes.  Not only have they been incredible, but the service they provide and the ability to answer any questions I have our out of this world!  Taxes - conquered.

Next, I have a wedding vow renewal ceremony coming up.  I am really excited about it.  This couple is pretty spectacular.  I am really honored they have given me the privlege.  I of course gave them the disclaimer I am not a normal wedding photographer.  They where comfortable with that.  Also, let me just throw in the cavet that I was late to our meeting.  I got lost and tried to call them to clear up the instructions.  Unfortunately, I google the address and was able to deduce what the name of the church was.  Made it and did my inspection.  The job will be tough, small space and not the best lighting.  Fortunately between my new 7d and the hours upon hours of practice I will be able to produce quality shots for them.  I kind of enjoy that challenge.  Also, we will have the rehersal which is the day before.  So I will get all the bugs out of the system by then.

Finally,  the big ending!  I am in St. Louis  I am here on a shooting adventure of sorts.  I will focus mainly on the time spent with my Mother and step dad out here.  My step dad is a photographer.  He has been in the business for sometime now.  Fortunately with his guidance I have been able to see some rare beauties that St. Louis Has to offer.  Check out all of Mark's goodies at www.markruth.net . We started out adventure with a trip over the Missippi over to Illionis.  We visit the most incredible bar in the world.  The name is Fast Eddies(http://fasteddiesbonair.com/) The bar is come as you are no bull shit type of service.  If you have a tie you are over dressed, and if you have a bad attitude then stay the heck out. This place has babes to booze and all the ridiculousness that comes with it.  Next, a slightly less wild, but even perhaps more spectacular place is the Butterfly house.  I have always enjoyed nature.  This house is another example of how great it really can be.  They have over 1200 butterflies and months a day in this place.  All breeds, models, and makes coexist in the contained habitat.  It is one giant experiment.  Every morning they release from their breeding growns all the butterflies or moths that have escaped from their cacoons.  Really neat place :)

Stay tooned tomorrow for Pappy's Smokehouse and Crown Candies!  Much more to come in tomorrows addition.  Stay tune, stay strong, and keep moving forward.

Cheers for tonight from St. Louis!

Tax Time - One World United Photos LLC

So Taxes, why would any one want to blog about taxes.  I am actually just want to talk about how exciting it is to have taxes for your own company.  Things these days are changing so quickly.  With the ability to transfer images across the web.  The ability to influences people simple lines of text and pictures from across the world truly something magical.  In this ever changing world though, one thing remainds the same - taxes.  Taxes help fund the world or we hope that this ideal exist.  Folks hate paying them.  Looking at your w-2 you are always wondering why do I have to pay so much.  Then everyone flips complete now it is tax time how much do I get in my return!!!

It seems that with every evil comes a truth.  So this year what are you gonna get with your tax return.  Will I take my return and put it back into the business.  Will I pay off my car.  Will I donate it to some charity.  Regardless the exciting part is waiting to see how much you get back.. It is like a xmas gift you have waited for begrudgingly.

So I suppose what I am getting at today is this, I own my own business.  My customers, models, landscapes, everything that makes that possible, Thanks!  Thanks for giving me the ability to do this and to experince this.  Nothing else like it in the world!!!!

Cheers!!

Myrtle Beach - One World United Photos LLC

So this weekend we are in Myrtle Beach.  It is the middle of January and I am in a vacation resort town... What am I thinking?  Well other then the extraordinarily cheap price of 5 star accommodations, and the no waiting in lines or dealing with folks that are on vacation, I am enjoying myself.  I am down here taking photos of a store, and advising on remodeling that store.  This Store is called Out Of Africa.  Now don't get me wrong this is not someone hiring me this is a family business.  The family that happens to own this store is within my family.  It is a great time to come and take photos of a town that is practically a ghost town during the winter.  Any one that is familiar with jersey shore or Virginia beach, or any number of other places can recognize the ghost town that they turn into.

The photos on this trip have been of the erie silent landscape type.  Sand blowing so hard that you think you are in a desert.  Or wind so biter that it's very bite cuts into your soul.  May be being alittle bit overly dramatic, but the point is that the scene is here for some very dramatic photos.  Now finding the right spot and exploring all the unknowns could take a life time.  How do I do this in just a two night stay down here.  Basically I came with no strategy.  Not my normal MO or I travel with other photographers (Aaron Snider or Amanda Snider) who have been to or researched the place we are going to.

SO this trip what do I hope to accomplish some scouting.  If I can find some places that will make a good shoot then I will be back.  My family owns busineses here.  So that is my hope.  Right now it is going well.  It has been amazing weekend. I have gotten some ok shots. Stay tuned and visit One World United Photos LLC to stay up to date on all the latest photos.
